For more than 25 years, Manduka has built a reputation as the world’s most respected yoga brand. Designed by yogis and trusted by teachers worldwide, carefully selected and sustainable materials are paired with thoughtful design to create innovative hotel yoga mats and yoga products that allow a community of 4,000+ yoga studios, 700+ yoga ambassadors and over 2 million customers across the globe to deepen their practice.
Manduka was founded in 1997 by Peter Sterios, a yoga instructor and architect, who began selling high performance yoga mats and yoga studio equipment out of his garage at his home in California. The mat that he sold came to be known as the Black Mat PRO™. The Black Mat PRO™ is a German-made, deluxe yoga mat, and to this day the Black Mat PRO™ continues to be the foundation of the brand. Our sustainability efforts don’t stop at the mat. From towels to props, we make every possible effort to minimize environmental impacts.
We now operate out of two offces: Our Americas headquarters based in Los Angeles. Our EMEA & APAC headquarters based out of Amsterdam. Manduka B.V. is the entity based in Amsterdam, and we opened our doors in 2019 – yoga is a part of all of our lives!
No other yoga studio equipment is built with the precision and passion of Manduka. Our design approach is rooted in principles of conservancy — creating responsibly sourced products while minimizing environmental waste. The result — high performance yoga mats with an even higher purpose — to keep the focus on the practice, not products.
The PRO Yoga Mat Series are made from PVC that has been certified STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX, 100% latex-free, manufactured emissions-free. Hand-crafted in Germany. The Yogitoes® Yoga Towels are made from (no fewer than) 4 discarded plastic bottles, woven into 50% recycled poly yarn content that requires 2/3 less energy to produce. The Cork Yoga Blocks are made from sustainable cork. Our Straps are made with either 100% natural unbleached cotton or 100% recycled spun polyester. The Round and Rectangular Bolsters are woven with post-consumer recycled plastic and our Meditation Cushions are filled with recycled cotton, polyester and organic buckwheat. Lastly, our Mat Cleaners are thoughtfully designed of all-natural plant-based solutions.
