We are proud to be a Cornish family-run company situated around one simple ethos; to supply sustainable timber furniture that will last a lifetime, that is ethically sourced, designed and manufactured. Sustainable Furniture is the UK’s leading supplier of eco hotel furniture and a multi-award-winning business.
All of our products, be they indoor or outdoor, are built to last. This in itself means that the investment in timber is not for a loss. All of our ethically made hotel furnishings are manufactured using traditional, tried and tested models which will ensure longevity, meaning less replacement and less timber needs to be used.
Sustainable Furniture will provide you with the product for today with no compromise for the future.
Not surprisingly, we love sustainability. We believe in supplying high-quality, sustainable timber furniture that’s going to go the distance. To us, being sustainable isn’t just about using reclaimed timber, but protecting and supporting every aspect of the supply chain. We are proud to say that at each stage of supply, manufacturing, and selling, we streamline every possible process so that all the ethically made hotel furnishings you receive are sustainable.
Supporting sustainability helps to reduce our impact on the environment and our world. Unmanaged de-forestation has already caused devastating effects on the earth along with the communities in the areas affected.
We support many organisations to try and reduce this impact, by collaborating expertise we can minimise the negative effects of global furniture manufacturing. Trees for Trees is a non-profit organisation we endorse that empowers communities to take part in re-forestation initiatives and also works to educate society about the impact of logging in Indonesia, where a large amount of our teak furniture is sourced. Perum Perhutani is among the bodies we support that act against illegal logging of trees in Indonesia and are certified by the Rainforest Alliance for Sustainable Forest Management. They actively prevent illegal logging and certify the timber used is from sustainable sources, totalling an area in excess of 2.4 million hectors.
We also actively participate the FLEGT Licenced Timber Initiative. FLEGT stands for “Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade”. This initiative aims to reduce illegal logging by strengthening sustainable and legal forest management, improving governance and promoting trade in legally produced timber. All new timber that we import from Indonesia comes with FLEGT certification, which guarantees that the timber is from sustainably sourced plantations, is harvested legally and ethically.
Why buy eco hotel furniture? Quite simply the more sustainable timber furniture we produce from re-afforested sustainable sources, the more trees will be planted to meet the demand and the more CO2 will be an absorbed – a simple green solution to reducing your carbon footprint. Our ethically made hotel furnishings include Douglas Fir, locally grown for us in Cornwall and expertly machined at our sawmill in The Duchy. Douglas Fir is perfect for outdoor use and produces high-quality, long-lasting and heavy-duty products that any commercial establishment would be proud of.
Each piece of our Teak Root Furniture is seriously impressive and 100% unique. Every root is excavated from abandoned Teak tree plantations and is carefully crafted to produce stunning table bases and works of art. Using the roots in this way creates valuable livelihoods for local communities in Indonesia and allows the soil to be used for further plantation. We love this sustainable process because it makes use of otherwise discarded by-products and they look incredible too. Our other eco hotel furniture ranges are manufactured from reclaimed Elm, natural Kubu Wicker, Swedish Redwood, Oak, and reclaimed Pine, along with our FLEGT certified solid Teak indoor and outdoor furniture to complete our catalogue.
We are also able to offer a bespoke design service, enabling you to purchase stylish and traditionally built eco hotel furniture pieces with your own functionality in mind. All our sustainable timber furniture is made to the highest standard using traditional joinery methods and are designed to stand the test of time.
Our concept for sustainability is not just based on sourcing ethically, but is also about ensuring the longevity in furniture and timber. When using sustainably grown timber, the product’s lifespan should be equal to (or longer) than it takes for the tree to reach a harvestable size again. We take great pride in achieving the product for today with no compromise for the future. We work closely with our suppliers to develop new ideas for ethically made hotel furnishings, influenced by the beauty and rich diversity of natural and sustainable resources. Where possible we use reclamation of timber, this is an especially effective method of sustainability that allows us to recycle previously used wood into beautiful new eco hotel furniture.

Sustainable Furniture is a Cornish family run business headed by Margaret Larson. The company founded in 2007 comes from Margaret’s many years of experience in furniture retail combined with a love for all things Sustainable. Margaret started with a vision to exclusively sell sustainable timber furniture that is ethically and sustainable sourced. Ensuring that throughout the supply chain, from sourcing of timber right through to delivery in the UK, that every aspect of the business is conducted in the most ethical of ways.
We care about the impact human’s cause on the planet by retail consumption and as a result want to minimise this effect where possible. Furniture is an item we purchase and use on a daily basis; it forms an integral part of our homes. Modern living has caused a shift to the increase of disposable living and utilises flat packed furniture that in general does not support a Sustainable planet. This furniture often made from timber which is not replaced and held together using glue full of chemicals and generally done in an extremely cheap manner.
Seeing these obvious shortfalls in this new upward trend, Margaret set about to readdress the balance with Sustainable Furniture. Utilising her large knowledge of the industry she went about procuring eco hotel furniture products sourced from forestry protected by commissions. These commissions prevent illegal logging from occurring, whilst ensuring re-plantation does. Logging when undertaken happens in an eco-manner using techniques such as thinning to promote growth of the trees around it. We also support the removal of the roots of trees from previously illegally logged ground so that re-plantation can occur, an essential undertaking to create reusable ground. Incidentally, these now form our teak root tables. Sustainability means more than just supporting the timber supply chain; we also support the local communities to which this trade is their only source of income. We ensure fair pay and equitable wages for these communities to allow them to flourish.
All of our eco hotel furniture, be they indoor or outdoor, are built to last. This in itself means that the investment in timber is not for a loss. All of our ethically made hotel furnishings are manufactured using traditional, tried and tested methods which will ensure longevity, meaning less replacement and less timber needs to be used.
We conduct ourselves in an eco-manner where possible; sustainability is an issue on the rise with the government now require procurement of furniture to be from sustainable sources.
