Matt Walls, Rhône wine expert for Decanter magazine, recently chose the flagship Via Caritatis Rouge Syrah Tota Pulchra Es to illustrate the excellence of the wines being produced in the region in a masterclass event organised and held at the Palace of the Popes in Avignon. The Ventoux AOC, explained Walls, is now “blossoming into the superhero of the region” and Via Caritatis, which features both the oldest vineyard and the highest lands of the appellation (between 1300 and 2000 feet), is becoming a major actor on this scene. The monks, who cultivate the wines in Ventoux AOC’s UNESCO designated biosphere reserve, humbly receive this recognition of the quality of their wine in light of the social and environmental values that underpin their winemaking.
