The story of Modbar starts with late-night conversations between two bandmates—a guitar-playing designer with a deep history in coffee and a bassist who was also an expert in machine pattern engineering. Together, they took hand-sketches and CAD drawings to the foundry and built the first luxury undercounter espresso machines. Our founders set out to make something that had never been seen before—a sentiment not unfamiliar to Fort Wayne, Indiana, an American manufacturing hub where early refrigerators, televisions, gas pumps and video game consoles were born. With the support of La Marzocco, the first undercounter hotel coffee brewing systems were released into the world in 2013. This was also the first time for the company where there was a collaboration between the R&D team in the US and the one in Italy to redesign the Modbar hotel espresso solutions. By moving brewing equipment under the counter, Modbar cleared the way for visionary cafe owners, roasters, and designers to reinvent the cafe experience. Removing the barrier between barista and customer makes room for the kinds of conversations and relationships that keep people coming back. Because like music, coffee fuels creativity and sparks conversation.
