We are a family-controlled business supplying luxury hotel spirits and dark rum for hotels. Our vision is to preserve the past and build the future for niche food and drink operations that originate in Northumbria in the United Kingdom. In brief our aim is to ‘Conserve Northumbrian Culture’.
We are a family-owned private company which is part of the Harry Hotspur Holdings group. We have a group vision to help protect and grow local Northumbrian heritage businesses particularly in the drink sector. Initially born out of our sister company – the Alnwick Brewery Company Limited – which was established in the late 1800s. The company launched its inaugural first dark rum for hotels, our signature best seller, our Alnwick Rum’s Legendary which is a 43% dark rum, based on a blend which includes a selection of Caribbean rums some of which are up to 2 years aged. It was first released in 1914 in honour of Northumberland’s seafaring heritage.
The Alnwick Rum Company was itself formed in 2003. A relative youngster but it has been fundamental in spreading the word of this special blend which over the years has gained an iconic status locally. Now called the Alnwick Rum & Spirits Company (ARSC) it has grown to become one of the country’s acclaimed niche rum providers.
We have as our branding the famed Harry Hotspur an English knight born in the 14th century which you will see on all of our luxury hotel spirits and dark rum for hotels. He lived in Northumberland.
The range of rums it sells today has grown in response to an evolving market and the business is now the proud owner of a full of range of rums, consisting of the original ‘Legendary Dark Rum’ supported by our exotic ‘Golden Spiced’ ( a spiced rum which has black pepper rather than the more traditional dominant vanilla so often found in many spiced rums ) and a smoothly blended white sipping Caribbean based un-aged beautiful rum, our ‘White Knight’. Within our business we also have a unique range of flavoured luxury hotel spirits which sit in the 17-20 percent ABV. These include a morish Almond rum, a very tasty Pineapple and Coconut summer drink, a Coffee and Cocoa rum and finally a smooth and tasty Honey Rum. We also produce a very popular line of locally distilled gins again with our own unique recipes. Our latest release is our highly acclaimed naval strength Collingwood Special Reserve. Regarded by many of naval pedigree as one of the finest they have tasted. It is recognised as a gunpowder proof rum at 57% ABV and is in honour of Lord Collingwood our renowned naval hero of the battle of Trafalgar in 1805. He is a local hero who was born and lived in our local area in Northumberland in the North of England.
