Lampenwelt has evolved into Europe’s largest and most successful online pure player for lighting products over the past 20 years. The company distributes its products across 17 countries using local e-shops such as lights.co.uk in the UK and luminaire.fr in France. Lampenwelt is devoted to creating the best possible delivery experience, blending service excellence with a vast portfolio spanning more than 50,000 products and 500 brand names. Corporate customers can also rely on Lampenwelt for professional light planning services and support. The company is part of the LUQOM GROUP, Europe’s leading online specialist for lighting and smart home innovations, delivered through more than 60 e-commerce shops in 27 countries.

In 1999, the founder and managing director of Lights.co.uk, Thomas Rebmann, began to sell lights via eBay after having finished his training to become an electrical engineer. What initially began as a source of extra income became a huge success. The company understood the customers’ needs and offered a unique range of products. ‘At this time, at the end of the 1990s, online trading was still in its infancy. However, with optimal service, a high level of motivation and a lot of endurance, we succeeded in winning over the trust of customers and suppliers’, recollects Thomas Rebmann.

Light is so much more than just illumination. Light is a basic need of every human being and affects us daily in all areas of life. The right lighting makes any place special and creates atmosphere and mood. Lighting design can inspire and make people so much more comfortable or productive. Lights.co.uk’s purpose is: ‘increase people’s well-being’. They are striving to achieve this by making sure that their product range excels in atmosphere, mood and design, but also security, functionality, sustainability and customer service.

I asked Dariusz what his target market was currently, and he said that the main target market is Germany, followed by the UK and France. He added that he strives to grow in the UK and besides adding more and more products to our assortment of over 1.2 million articles we serve B2B clients with special services like lighting design and personal consulting.

I went on to mention the amazing “Das Kohlmayr” project that Lights.co.uk recently supplied with all of the guest room lighting (pictured below), and asked Dariusz what his favourite project that Lights.co.uk has been involved in was. He said: “It’s hard to pick a single project because all of them have different challenges and it is very satisfying for us to see the final result. I think that’s part of the beauty. When everything is planned and installed you can immediately see the result when the light shines. If I had to pick some, I would go with the tiny coodo, where we had been part of the development of the whole lighting system for their tiny houses. Also, Coffee Fellows, a fast growing coffee house retail chain, is one of my favourites. We implemented processes together to ensure, that we always have the lights they need on stock so they can directly access and order them.”

Dariusz described the year 0f 2021 as being “challenging, dynamic and successful.” Lampenwelt saw a strong increase in customer demand, especially during the lockdown periods. At the same time, the current health situation (SARS-CoV-2) worldwide created a new unprecedented challenge for suppliers to maintain their supply chains. He said that his goals for 2022 were to continue Lights.co.uk’s success story and invest in further growth by expanding internationally and increase our services on every level.

My next question was: what about your business, products and approach to customers stands out from other competitors? Dariusz explained that with a 50,000-strong selection of assorted designs Lights.co.uk offers an extremely versatile range; from entry-level lighting to renowned luxury designer brands such as Artemide, Luceplan and Anglepoise to a professional lighting range, e.g. brands like Regent, Waldmann, ARCCHIO or PRIOS, for business and trade customers. He added that customer satisfaction and lighting expertise is Lights.co.uk’s top priority, which is why they have a team of dedicated B2B Account Managers and lighting designers.

Dariusz said that his favourite product was the Arcchio Rotari LED ceiling spotlights – there are one bulb and two bulb variants (below). This small LED ceiling spotlight is great with its modern design and flexible lighting possibilities. Its light head can not only be rotated by 350° but also swivelled by 90°, meaning that it can set the scene for certain areas of the room in a very targeted way. The aluminium housing is equipped with a built-in reflector, which has a beam angle of 34° and enriches the room with warm white light (3,000 K). If required, the luminaire can be adjusted in brightness with a phase-cut dimmer or phase-cut dimmer and has a CRI value > 90. The driver has been integrated into the housing.

Dariusz also made a point of mentioning the newest products on Lights.co.uk: the Lucande Filoreta floor lamp and the Lucande Filoreta pendant lamp (below). The Filoreta is a nice, minimalistic lighting collection, that fits perfectly for hotel rooms, restaurants and cafés that need warm lighting. With all its features, it is a luxurious range of luminaires that combines simple elegance with solid construction and is well received in numerous living areas. It is available as floor, table or pendant lamps in either white or black.
