Why choose mushroom coffee?

Choosing mushroom coffee offers several potential benefits that set it apart from traditional coffee. Here are some reasons why you might consider incorporating mushroom coffee into your routine:

  1. Reduced Acidity: Mushroom coffee tends to have lower acidity compared to traditional coffee. This can be beneficial for individuals with sensitive stomachs or acid reflux, as it may cause less irritation and discomfort. Our patented post roasting process for adding mushrooms shows that the acidity is as low as pH 6,5 (compared to normal coffee with pH 3-5). See more below.
  2. Enhanced Health Benefits: Mushrooms, such as lion’s mane, are rich in various bioactive compounds that offer potential health benefits. See below.
  3. Balanced Energy: Mushroom coffee often contains less caffeine than traditional coffee, which can lead to a more balanced and sustained energy boost without the jitters or crash commonly associated with high caffeine consumption. Additionally, these adaptogenic mushrooms have properties, which may help the body adapt to stress and support overall energy levels.
  4. Unique Flavor Profile: Depending on the type of mushrooms used and the brewing method, mushroom coffee can have a unique and complex flavor profile. Earthy, nutty, and even slightly sweet notes from mushrooms can complement the rich, bold flavor of coffee, resulting in a distinctive and enjoyable taste experience.
  5. Sustainability: Many mushroom coffee brands prioritize sustainability by using organic, ethically sourced ingredients and employing environmentally friendly practices in their production processes. Choosing mushroom coffee from responsible producers can be a way to support sustainable agriculture and minimize your environmental footprint.
  6. Convenience: Mushroom coffee offers a convenient way to incorporate the potential health benefits of mushrooms into your daily routine without the need for additional supplements or preparations. It can be brewed just like regular coffee using your preferred brewing method, making it easy to enjoy at home or on the go.

Overall, mushroom coffee provides a unique and potentially beneficial alternative to traditional coffee, offering a combination of rich flavor, potential health benefits, and sustainability considerations. If you’re looking to explore new coffee experiences while supporting your well-being, mushroom coffee may be worth considering.

Does our mushroom coffee taste like mushrooms?

Thankfully, no! Our coffee tastes just like a medium roast Arabica—or even better. This isn’t just any mushroom coffee; we call it gourmet mushroom coffee for a reason. We’ve combined the art of fine craft roasting with our patented and unique mushroom infusion. As the pioneers of whole bean mushroom coffee, we’ve created a velvety, harmoniously balanced brew with a distinctive umami flavor profile, perfect for the refined tastes of coffee aficionados.

How do you prepare it?

The preparation method remains unchanged from regular ground coffee. Whether you prefer a French press or a drip filter, you have the freedom to customize your brew with your choice of vegan milk or any other additions. For optimal taste, we recommend grinding the whole beans yourself, whether for a shot of espresso or your preferred coffee preparation method.

Health Benefits

1. Low-Acidity

Our patented production method offers several health benefits when it comes to low acidity. Our specialty coffee has a pH of around 6 (depending also on water used) whereas low-acid is normally considered with a pH of around 5 and other coffees pH 3,5-5.

  • Reduced Acid Reflux and Heartburn: Low acid coffee can help minimize the symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn by being gentler on the stomach lining.
  • Less Stomach Irritation: For those with sensitive stomachs or gastrointestinal issues such as ulcers or gastritis, low acid coffee can reduce irritation and discomfort.
  • Decreased Tooth Enamel Erosion: Acidic foods and drinks can contribute to the erosion of tooth enamel. Low acid coffee is less likely to harm your teeth.
  • Improved Digestion: Some people experience digestive discomfort from regular coffee. Low acid coffee can be easier to digest, reducing bloating and discomfort.
  • Better Tolerance for Sensitive Individuals: People with conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or acid-related stomach issues may find low acid coffee more tolerable.
  • Fewer Antacids Needed: By causing less acid-related discomfort, low acid coffee can reduce the need for antacids or other acid-neutralizing medications.
  • Enhanced Enjoyment: For those who love coffee but struggle with its acidity, low acid options allow them to continue enjoying their favorite beverage without adverse effects.

2. Balancing Effect of Adaptogenic Mushrooms

Incorporating Lion’s Mane into coffee provides a balanced blend of stimulation and calmness, enhancing cognitive functions while mitigating some of the less desirable effects of caffeine, such as anxiety, energy crashes, and digestive discomfort. This combination creates a more sustained, smooth, and productive energy experience.

3. Benefits of Lion’s Mane Extract

Lion’s Mane (Hericium Erinaceus) is a type of medicinal mushroom known for its unique appearance and various health benefits. Research has highlighted several potential benefits of Lion’s Mane, particularly for brain health, immune support, and overall well-being. Here are some of the key health benefits:

  1. Cognitive Function and Brain Health
  • Neuroprotection: Lion’s Mane contains compounds such as hericenones and erinacines that can stimulate the growth of brain cells and protect against neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Memory and Learning: Studies suggest that Lion’s Mane may improve memory and cognitive function, potentially benefiting individuals with mild cognitive impairment or Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Nerve Regeneration: The mushroom has been shown to promote nerve growth factor (NGF) production, which is crucial for the growth, maintenance, and survival of neurons.
  1. Mental Health
  • Mood and Anxiety: Lion’s Mane may help reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety by promoting hippocampal neurogenesis and modulating inflammatory pathways.
  1. Immune System Support
  • Immunomodulation: Lion’s Mane can enhance the immune system by stimulating the production of beneficial bacteria in the gut and activating immune cells like macrophages and natural killer (NK) cells.
  • Anti-inflammatory: The mushroom has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce chronic inflammation, which is linked to various health issues.
  1. Digestive Health
  • Gut Health: Lion’s Mane may support digestive health by promoting the growth of beneficial gut bacteria and reducing inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Ulcer Prevention: Some studies suggest that Lion’s Mane can help prevent and treat stomach ulcers by protecting the mucous layer of the stomach and reducing inflammation.
  1. Antioxidant Properties
  • Oxidative Stress Reduction: Lion’s Mane contains potent antioxidants that can help neutralize free radicals, reducing oxidative stress and preventing cell damage.
  1. Anti-Fatigue and Energy Boost
  • Energy Levels: Lion’s Mane may help combat fatigue and improve energy levels by enhancing mitochondrial function and reducing oxidative stress.

These health benefits are supported by both animal and human studies, although more research is needed to fully understand the extent of Lion’s Mane’s effects and to confirm its efficacy in larger human trials.

What type of mushroom extract is used?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a comprehensive health system that has been practiced in China for over 2,000 years. Medicinal and functional mushrooms have been integral to TCM for more than 1,000 years.

The practice of using extracts, particularly through advanced methods like double extraction, has evolved to ensure maximum health benefits from these medicinal fungi. Double extraction is where fat-soluble nutrients are first extracted in alcohol, followed by a second extraction with water, and the alcohol is subsequently removed.

We use only the mushroom fruiting body and double extraction extracts, standardized to contain a minimum of 30% polysaccharides. This ensures their adaptogenic effects are evident in the coffee, providing a noticeable balance to the stimulating effects of caffeine.

The chosen extraction method is meticulously designed to maximize all nutritional benefits, contrasting with newer technologies prevalent in Western countries, such as ultrasound, which boast evidence of yielding beneficial compounds. Hot water extraction stands as the singular proven method to effectively break down, or rather, “melt away,” the chitinous cell walls, thus activating the beta-glucans while maintaining their structural integrity.
