The Marriott International has announce that they are expecting to open almost one hundred more properties in the Asia Pacific region this year alone…

Despite 2020 being an extremely difficult year for the hospitality sector – Marriott International still managed to open 75 new hotels in Asia Pacific. This year, they’ve remarkably announced that this growth will continue in the region, with a recent press statement confirming their ambition to open nearly 100 new properties in 2021.

The company announced that Greater China had “led the global recovery so far” – they expect to soon be launching their 400th hotel opening within Greater China and their 50th hotel in Shanghai for Spring 2021. They also revealed that leisure bookings within Mainland China has been up over 25 percent year on year, this has led to their ambition to continue to grow their property base in the area. Meanwhile, Marriott will also be bringing hotels to Japan with the opening of a property in Osaka, as well as vast plans to support domestic travel within the country with the launch of six new Fairfield by Marriott hotels.

Craig S. Smith, Group President, Marriott International, said: “I am proud of the way we have continued to grow and have moved quickly to adapt to the challenges that arose from the pandemic. With the launch of new global industry hygiene standards in April 2020, innovative offerings such as work anywhere packages and hyper-localised marketing and sales strategies, our nimble and forward-thinking approach will continue to lead us through the recovery. “We are grateful for the continued resilience and positivity demonstrated by our associates and for the confidence our guests, owners and franchisees continue to have in us. We remain well-positioned to meet the travel demands of our guests across Asia Pacific and the rest of the world.”

This marks some brilliant news for our wonderful industry, so hats off to you Marriott International!
