In yoga, often it is said that a consistent and mindful practice is ultimately a preparation for death.  That can be a terrifying sentiment at first, but with time, understanding, and usually, the guidance of a teacher, this thought becomes calming and reassuring.  Why?  Because the goal becomes less about the destination and more about the journey.  That the practice, and the intentionality of it, IS the objective!

To “Inspire the Practice” has been part of Manduka’s mission since our founding.  This is at the heart of what we do—crafting performance yoga mats and other products that meet you wherever you are on the journey and allow you to simply focus on the practice without distraction.

Is it, practice makes perfect?  Or perhaps, practice makes progress?  Or even, practice makes practice?  What does practice mean to you?  This is the sentiment driving our newest brand campaign, “Practice Makes”, launching this month.

Manduka’s brand message—that practice can be many things and that our yoga teachers lead us in the commitment to a lifelong practice—is the evolution of the mission.  To celebrate those that have dedicated themselves to teaching yoga, we have named September as International Yoga Teacher Appreciation Month.  Over the course of the month, Manduka is honoring teachers with extra love and support and featuring their unique perspectives in our campaign.

The timing of this communication coincides with the autumnal equinox, a period when day and night are nearly equal.  This event signals the beginning of fall and the traditional harvest season and is a time to begin preparations for the coming winter.  It is an annual cycle can be thought of as practice for the subsequent years.

Manduka wishes you many opportunities to practice, whatever that “makes” for you.
