What’s the story and inspiration behind Opis Technology?

Opis Technology was born in 2011 from the collective vision of three friends who brought diverse expertise to the table. One friend had a background in semiconductor technology as a development manager, another in project management, and the third was a software engineer with banking experience. Their shared passion for vintage products ignited the idea of infusing modern technology into retro phones, blending nostalgia with innovation. This love for vintage items served as the driving force behind Opis, leading to the creation of products that seamlessly marry the charm of yesteryears with the functionality of today’s technology.

Could you walk me through the key features and functionalities of your retro phones? How would they enhance the guest experience in hotels?

Opis Technology’s retro phones boast a range of features designed to evoke nostalgia while offering modern functionality. For classic landline phones, customers can enjoy the tactile experience of a real rotary dial and the authentic sound of a mechanical bell. These phones are available in a variety of colors and even feature real wood housing for a touch of luxury. On the other hand, our mobile phones disguised as landline phones offer the appearance of a classic device but operate as modern mobile phones, available in both 2G and 4G versions. These phones come with options like rotary dials or push buttons, programmable short dials, and various modes for auto dialing or number restriction. In hotels, these retro phones enhance the guest experience by adding a touch of vintage charm to guest rooms. The classic design complements hotel decor, while the seamless integration into existing communication systems ensures ease of use for guests.

How easily can your phones be integrated into existing hotel communication systems?

Opis Technology’s phones are designed for effortless integration into hotel communication systems. Our classic landline phones feature a plug-and-play setup, allowing them to be connected to the hotel room phone jack with ease. They are compatible with both classic wall jacks and modern DSL routers, ensuring seamless integration into various hotel setups. Similarly, our mobile phones require a SIM card from a local network provider for operation. Once the SIM card is inserted, the phone can be turned on and used immediately. For hotels looking to program specific numbers for quick dialing, Opis Technology offers a programming service to ensure phones are ready for use straight out of the box.

What has been the reception of your retro phones so far – have you received any feedback from hoteliers or guests?

The reception of Opis Technology’s retro phones has been overwhelmingly positive, with feedback pouring in from both hoteliers and guests alike. The authentic vintage style of our phones has been particularly well-received, with hotels and guests alike appreciating the nostalgic charm they bring to guest rooms. The wooden 1921 series phones have garnered special attention, proving to be a favorite among colonial-style hotels and adding to the ambiance of historic or themed accommodations. Additionally, customers, especially in Scandinavia, have shown a preference for our mobile phone options, citing their convenience and cost-effectiveness. These phones eliminate the need for a centralized phone system and wiring in each hotel room, resulting in significant cost savings for hoteliers.

Are there any upcoming developments or innovations in the pipeline you’d like to share?

Opis Technology is dedicated to staying at the forefront of retro phone technology, with several exciting developments in the pipeline:

We are currently in the final stages of developing a DECT version of our retro phones. DECT, or Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications, is a wireless indoor standard commonly used for indoor phones. This new iteration of our retro phones will offer the convenience of wireless communication without compromising on the vintage aesthetic. With prototypes ready and final software modifications underway, we anticipate launching this product in Q4 of this year.

In addition to technological advancements, we are also exploring various design options to further enhance the aesthetics and versatility of our retro phones. These design enhancements will provide customers with more choices to customize and tailor the phones to their specific preferences and needs. We believe that these upcoming developments will continue to push the boundaries of retro phone innovation, offering customers even more options to enjoy the perfect blend of nostalgia and modern functionality.
