Could you tell us about the inspiration behind Heatsail and its founding principles?
My partner and me, we were on a terrace. We asked for the heating and it was a gas heater, and it looked like the gas was out. It wouldn’t turn on, so on and so forth. And my partner, he was really the technical guy. He said, that has to be different. And so, we started inventing the Dome, our first product. It took us three years of developing and now we’ve been selling the dome for nine years, in over 80 countries, re-exporting. That’s how it started.
How does Heatsail differentiate itself in the market of outdoor lighting, heating and cooling solutions?
We have heating and lighting in one device – nobody else has that besides only one of our competitors who has something similar. We have a patent, we have a model protection and more, and the nice thing about our product is it’s always on top of the table. It’s not behind you, it’s not at the other side of the room. Everybody gets it nicely warm so that’s a really nice thing. And we work with FAR-infrared, whereas others work with gas or with infrared. FAR-infrared means that rays go into your skin, your blood’s turning around fast, and that’s why you’re getting warm. That’s the basic idea about our product.
Could you elaborate on the FAR-Infrared technology used in your products, and its benefits?
The body heat gets 85% of it picked up through your head. That’s why the distance from your head, to our products, is really important. You’re getting heated by the FAR-infrared. Infrared is just a long distance, and we are short distance. So you get it really nicely warm over all of your body, whereas with the infrared it’s just your face when you look at it, but not down to your feet. So the big advantage of our products is that your whole body gets really nicely warm. It’s also healthy as well – it’s been a study of the University of Oxford, where apparently our product is healing as well. And the proof that is in hospitals, when babies get born, they’ve sometimes been put under the same heating elements as ours.
Sustainability is a significant focus for Heatsail. So, how do your products contribute to a more eco-friendly outdoor experience?
We only use three kilowatts. For example, a gas heater uses 30,000 watts, or 30 kilowatts – whereas we only use three. It’s a plug and play. You only use about 70 euro cents an hour, so you don’t have to buy a car to get a barrel for your gas heater. That’s the really big advantage of our product. So it uses low consumption of electricity. and you don’t have to move somewhere to get the gas installed.
Do you have any upcoming projects or innovations that you’d like to share with us?
We do have one really nice innovation. It’s called a Twig. It’s for people who have a smaller terrace, like I have. I live in the city centre, so my terrace is not really big. If I would’ve used the dome, then my terrace would crowded. So, now we have the Twig. It’s really nice; it’s foldable, you can take it away. So if you say: “okay, I want to put in the garage or in the storage”, that’s no problem at all. It comes with a cover, and it’s plug and play, as well. It’s really great for the hospitality industry and it’s a nice heater as well. You can put it at the table where people are asking for it. It’s really well designed. If you go to our website, and you go to Twig from our products, then you will see it. It’s a really, really nice architectural heating system.
