What has been your proudest moment / achievement for Bamboovement to date?

From the beginning of Bamboovement, we dreamed big – to get on board of the leading airlines around the world and inspire millions of people this way with eco-friendly products. Launching onboard KLM after three years of starting the company was definitely one of my highlights.

Talk to me a bit about your tree-planting projects; what is your approach, and how many have you planted so far?

Our commitment to reforestation is twofold. First, through Eden Reforestation Projects, we aim to support communities affected by deforestation by providing jobs and education, reinforcing the idea that environmental stewardship goes hand in hand with social well-being. Secondly, our collaboration with ClimatePartner allows us to offset carbon emissions identified in our product lifecycle analyses.

While the exact number of trees planted through ClimatePartner is not quantified by a tree count but rather by CO2 offset, our partnership with Eden has led to the planting of 76,000 trees.

For example, if a 100 room hotel changed their amenity toothbrush to Bamboovement’s toothbrush, how much could this reduce their carbon footprint / waste on an annual basis? Explain to me a little more about your carbon offsetting programme.

Switching to Bamboovement’s bamboo toothbrushes can significantly reduce a hotel’s carbon footprint. To quantify, our bamboo toothbrushes emit less than 20 grams of CO2 each from the bamboo harvest to the final shipping process.

For a 100-room hotel with a 70% occupancy rate, this switch can result in a yearly reduction of 511 kg of CO2. To put this into perspective, this savings is equivalent to over 65 return train trips from Amsterdam to London, according to Eurostar.

If a hotel was considering more sustainable amenities, is there the option to customise the packaging to be in keeping with their aesthetic?

It is crucial to have an amenity set that aligns with the hotel’s image. We have in-house designers or work closely with our clients’ designers to create the most bespoke amenities that align with the hotel’s brand identity.

Sustainable Guest Room Amenities

The concept of “conscious consumerism” is gaining traction. How do you see consumer behaviour evolving towards more sustainable choices, and how does Bamboovement contribute to this shift?

It becomes increasingly essential for people to know that the product they are ‘consuming’ has a story to tell and has a low impact on our planet. We see this shifting by the growing popularity of plastic-free products in our industry. We aim to contribute to this by being fully transparent about the whole supply chain of our items and by continuing to innovate.

How does Bamboovement differentiate itself from other sustainable brands in the market?

We take the extra step by calculating the emissions of our products to measure the impact and ensure that all of our items are certified (FSC, ISO, B-Corp, ClimatePartner verified). On top of that, we create innovations specifically made for the amenity industry that are unique to Bamboovement.
