Could you provide an overview of Level Frames’ founding principles and mission? What inspired the creation of the company, and how has it evolved since its inception?

Co-founders Josh and Damian teamed up in 2014 to make custom framing more convenient, affordable and intuitive by bringing the entire experience on line. Josh’s frustration after attempting to frame his concert ports collection locally was a major inspiration. They envisioned a modern website that made customisation and preview easy, paired with a streamlined framing operation that could handcraft and ship museum-quality frames in a week or less. The company has grown beyond custom frames for artwork to offer printed and framed photos, collage frames, gallery wall designs and a hospitality division to service the unique needs of hotels, retail stores and other commercial spaces.

Level Frames is known for its customisable framing options and innovative technology. How does the company approach customisation, and what sets your framing solutions apart from traditional methods?

Every frame is made to order. Our website makes it simple to customise, preview and purchase the exact frame or frame framed photo that you need, and our proprietary production software translates those specs into a final product that our framing team will ship right your door within about a week. We offer the same materials you would find in a museum or high end custom frame shop, but at a fraction of the price and in way less time, and our online ordering process and dedicated support are there to make any project as seamless as possible.

Quality is paramount when it comes to framing artwork. Could you elaborate on the materials used in Level Frames’ products and the quality standards you adhere to in manufacturing?

Level’s custom frames are handcrafted in the USA to the highest standards using only archival and conservation-grade materials. Every material must be acid-free to meet archival standards; otherwise, you risk fading or deterioration of the artwork over time. Our team has decades of experience with custom framing and printing photos, and we have multiple points of quality control and inspection before any frame leaves our studio. In the rare event that something shows up with shipping damage or is not up to standards, we stand behind every frame we make and can always make things right.

Sustainability is an essential consideration for many consumers today. How does Level Frames approach sustainability and ethical practices in its operations and product offerings?

Sustainability and our impact on the environment was a real focus from the very beginning. We source almost everything domestically, and only use wood profiles (beware of plastic of MDF frames that are not renewable or biodegradable). We seek out and predominantly use frames sourced from sustainably-managed forests, and have also partnered with the National Forest Foundation to plant a tree for every purchase. Our packaging is optimised to reduce waste and use as much recyclable material as possible. Finally, one of the biggest things is that our museum-quality custom frames are the opposite of disposable and are truly built to last. We have a lot of confidence that whatever you are framing will look great and last for the long haul.
