What is the driving mission behind Papoutsanis, and how does it shape your approach to creating hotel amenities?
Our mission is to exceed our clients’ expectations by mirroring quality products with outstanding customer service. With a history that spans over 150 years, Papoutsanis’ strength has always been in constantly improving the quality and range of services and developing innovative products for all our customers. We focus on ecology and sustainability. In 2024, we received the EcoVadis silver award for our development and achievements in the areas of environmental protection, fair employment and sustainable supply chain.
What criteria do you prioritise when selecting materials for your products, and how do you ensure they meet both quality and environmental standards?
Sustainability and ethical sourcing are the heart of our work. Developing our product range is a meticulous process that begins with understanding our customers’ preferences and ends with the perfect amenity product. We start with customer research, to understand what fragrance and texture they like and what’s important to them. We source all our ingredients directly from local producers. This direct relationship allows us to offer such quality products. Once we’ve settled on a new variant, it’ll take many months of testing before we release it out in the world.
How has the demand for sustainable and premium hotel amenities evolved in recent years, and how have Papoutsanis adapted to these changes?
At Papoutsanis, we are committed to genuine sustainability and strive to avoid greenwashing. We recognise that being truly sustainable can be challenging. Despite these challenges, we are dedicated to making real, impactful changes rather than merely presenting an eco-friendly image. Some of our efforts focus on responsible sourcing, we manufacture locally in Greece, and we source raw materials from local producers. Other key initiatives are to avoid as much as possible single-use plastic while at the same time we use recyclable packaging and FSC-certified packaging.
Can you share any success stories or case studies where a partnership led to significant environmental benefits?
Our NEW hotel range, UpC, aims to enhance the sustainable character of hotels by reducing their waste and promoting the idea of circular economy through the collection and management of espresso waste. Utilising this residue, the extract is created and added to the hotel amenities, whose ingredients enhance the microbiome of the skin. This new product makes it easy for hotels to reduce their waste and promote sustainability.
