Arkay provides our customers with a range of premium decorative options including cold foil. This is an in-line process with the printing step using two stations. In the first station, an adhesive is printed using a standard offset printing plate, and in the second station the foil is applied to the adhesive. The remaining foil that is not applied remains on a polyester liner that is directed to a rewind spool. Because the process uses printing plates, the registration between the foil image and the remaining printed elements is perfect. There are a variety of cold foil colours available – including holographic patterns. When using silver cold foil – you can then overprint to create any metallic colour required for your graphics. Like standard printing inks, the cold foil is coated at the end of the printing process to provide a durable surface. Because cold foil is an in-line process, it often provides a lower cost than foil stamping which is a separate process. Also, cartons with cold foil remain recyclable to meet your sustainability goals.
