Our skin is amazing, it regulates our body temperature, provides a protective barrier and helps maintain fluid balance. A good skincare routine and making more healthy lifestyle choices can help delay the natural ageing process, prevent various skin problems, and leave you with healthier feeling skin.

Ensure a good skincare routine

Daily cleansing and shaving can take a toll, strong soaps which can strip oil from your skin, so try to keep it gentle and always use a good moisturiser. But there isn’t a “one size fits all” approach for skincare and you should tailor your skincare to fit your individual needs including age, where you live, skin tone, skin conditions and allergies.

Protect yourself from the sun

One of the most important ways to take care of your skin is to protect it from the sun. Exposure to the sun can cause wrinkles, age spots and other skin problems, as well as an increased risk of skin cancer. Remember you can even get sunburnt on cloudy days. So, when you are outdoors you can protect you skin by using sunscreen, finding a shady spot to avoid the full glare on the sun and wearing protective clothing.

Say no to smoking

Smoking has several negative effects on your skin including but not limited to premature ageing by causing premature wrinkling, fine lines and sagging skin; skin discolouration and uneven skin tone; reduced blood flow which means the skin receives fewer nutrients and oxygen, leading to a dull and unhealthy complexion. Smoking is also associated with an increased risk of developing various types of skin cancer. If you do smoke, the best way to protect your skin is to quit smoking.

Eat healthy

The adage, you are what you eat, is true and a healthy diet can help you look and feel great. As older skin cells are constantly being shed and replaced, a steady supply of nutrients is essential to support skin turnover. By eating a healthy and balanced diet that includes antioxidant-rich fruit and vegetables, healthy fats from oily fish and nuts, and adequate hydration gives your skin the nutrients it needs from within, to keep it healthy.

Reduce stress and get your beauty sleep

Make sure you take steps to manage your stress and get enough sleep. Stress can often make your skin more sensitive and trigger acne breakouts and other skin problems. Stress hormones break down the collagen and elastin in skin and interfere with rejuvenation, which can speed up the aging process. Getting your beauty sleep will banish those dark circles around your eyes and improve your skin tone. It is generally recommended that adults need between a full seven to nine hours of quality sleep a day to look their best. During deep sleep, your body enters repair mode and regenerates skin, muscles, and blood and brain cells. Without adequate sleep, your body is unable to produce new collagen, which prevents your skin from sagging.

SilverGuard products are kind to skin

Natural fibres

SilverGuard looks to use natural fibres compared to synthetic fibres when designing and manufacturing products. For products which have significant direct contact with your skin, such as bedding and towels, this is vitally important. Why are natural fibres good for your skin? They are moisture wicking, reusable, eco-friendly, plastic free, biodegradable, breathable and durable.

SilverGuard bed linen is made from a blend of Supima cotton and IONIC+ silver thread. The natural fibres of Supima Cotton are soft, breathable and lightweight. The breathable fabric absorbs sweat and allows it to evaporate into the air, keeping you cool in hot conditions. Because of its absorbent nature, it will wick moisture away from your skin, preventing the growth of bacteria. For our towel products we use a combination Organic cotton and IONIC+ silver thread technology in our towels helps ensure your skin stays healthy two-fold. By using Organic cotton, we ensure that our towel products have not been treated with chemicals, both during the growing of cotton and when the towels are made, which can irritate your skin; particularly if you have sensitive skin or eczema. You will also enjoy cleaner, clearer and healthier skin when using our towels with the IONIC+ silver thread technology incorporated into the towels as the silver works to eliminate acne-causing bacteria.

IONIC+ silver thread technology

Silver is clinically proven to prevent inflammation by naturally soothing the skin and silver’s healing properties are increasingly recognised and recommended by dermatologists. All SilverGuard products are woven with Noble Biomaterial’s proprietary IONIC+ silver thread technology*. The silver thread has antimicrobial properties which can help ease the itchiness of eczema and other skin conditions and soothe broken and irritated skin. The IONIC+ silver technology also prevents bacteria from building up on already broken skin which can cause further soreness and infection.

How? IONIC+ silver works by breaking down the DNA of bacteria and other microbes. It is these bacteria that causes the inflammation, itchiness and infection in skin conditions. Bacteria cannot become resistant to the silver in our products so continual treatment is provided.

When considering bed linen, studies have found unwashed sheets had several thousand times more bacteria than a toilet seat. As your bed linen comes into contact with your skin for around eight hours a day, particularly your face, traditional fabrics collect bacteria, only to transfer back onto your skin causing acne-prone skin to break out. SilverGuard bedding allows for healthier skin by tackling redness and skin irritations as the silver thread technology eliminate bacteria which can cause these irritations.

Skin Health Alliance accreditation

Finally, as the only textile brand that is Dermatologically Accredited by the Skin Health Alliance you can be reassured that our products are safe for your skin. The SHA “dermatologically accredited” mark is an independent assurance that provides customers assurance that products have met a standardised set of skin safety requirements which have been agreed upon by leading international dermatologists and skin scientists.

By seeking SHA accreditation, SilverGuard has actively demonstrated to an independent team of expert dermatologists that our textile products and accompanying claims are evidenced with robust scientific and clinical research. SHA have also recognised SilverGuard as meeting international regulatory standards for skin care, in addition to sustainability and environmental concerns.
