It’s no secret that the current circumstances we find ourselves within have had a monumental impact on our sector. But what can we expect now that we find ourselves in another Lockdown? The Government guidance says: “Hotels, hostels and other accommodation should only open for those who have to travel for work purposes and for a limited number of other exemptions which will be set out in law.” Undoubtedly, this is once again going to have a huge effect on hotels here in the UK – the significant decrease in occupancy, the cancellation of a vast amount of future bookings along with many other consequences of the Lockdown will almost certainly leave the UK hotel sector in a similar position to which it found itself in during the first Lockdown. Back in April, UKHospitality reported the the Hospitality sector was at one point looking at a total of one million job losses. Like anything though, there is always a silver lining. This second break will allow hotels to assess and plan for the future of their hotel – which is something we have noticed massively. Being the Worlds leading marketplace for hotel owners, operators and other industry professionals, we saw a large rise in the number of hotel renovations. Over the course of this second Lockdown we will be sharing our own professional views on the impact it is having on our wonderful sector.
